"White paper. A new story ”: the project conceived by Valentina Ciarallo on the occasion of the White Issue Vogue Italia in April 2020 becomes an exhibition. From 25 June to 29 August 2021, the Gigi Guadagnucci Museum in Massa (MS) hosts a preview of the 49 artist covers starting from the special edition of the well-known magazine, released during the first lockdown with a completely blank one, a sign of bewilderment, amazement and expectation.
Invited by Valentina Ciarallo, 49 Italian artists, separated by an overall age span of 29 years, transformed the magazine volume from content to container, writing a new story on white paper. A choral enterprise, born "from below", which saw the participation, among others, of established artists, such as Mario Airò, Stefano Arienti, Vedovamazzei and Flavio Favelli, and young authors, such as Bea Bonafini, Guglielmo Castelli, Romina Bassu and Riccardo Beretta, united by the desire to start over.
The 49 artist covers were published, within an article, by Vogue Italia in the March 2021 issue, dedicated to creativity, a theme shared by the international Vogue community, with a presentation text by Federico Chiara and a critical intervention by Francesco Bonami.
With this project, the spaces of Villa della Rinchiostra, seat of the museum dedicated to the sculptor Gigi Guadagnucci, opens up to the artists of the present, capable of getting back into the game, of rediscovering new aspirations, of reinventing other expressive ways.
«The occasion of this exhibition - declares Nadia Marnica, councilor for culture of the Municipality of Massa - in addition to the great communicative value linked to the difficult moment we are going through, it is also a great opportunity to meet different ways of expressing art and disseminating messages: the love and passion transfused into marble by Gigi Guadagnucci and the desire for rebirth, the sense of hope in the works of the project linked to the white cover of Vogue Italia in April 2020. An enrichment for our museum ».
«This project - explains Cinzia Compalati, director of the Gigi Guadagnucci Museum - closely reflects our recent past and those collective feelings of bewilderment and amazement that accompanied all Italians in March 2020 on the occasion of the first lockdown. This is what the Gigi Guagnucci Museum is doing today: creating experiences and establishing a privileged bond with the reference community, through actions that make the museum a mirror of the contemporary in which to recognize oneself ».
