Fabrizio Cotognini, De contemptus Mundi, 2023, Misure Variabili, inchiostro, rosaspina Fabriano, bronzo, plexiglass, disegno e microfusione orafa, courtesy the artist and BUILDING Milano d
The work is made up of 7 ink drawings, 9 bronze micro-castings and 3 display cases designed by the architect Mario Cucinella. This work is inspired by a whole literature that starts from the Patristic era, develops during the Middle Ages and beyond the Renaissance ; it expresses one of the most important aspects of medieval spirituality. But, for thinkers, the negative attitude of "contempt for the world" is always the counterpart of a positive attitude: the hope of eternal goods and the aspiration for perfect union with God: this is what distinguishes contempt for the world from all forms of radical pessimism.
